01What OLED genuinely wins at
Per-pixel lighting means true black, and response times that make LCD motion look smeared by comparison. In fast games the difference is immediately visible, not a spec-sheet abstraction.
02The burn-in question, honestly
Modern panels have pixel-shifting and refresh cycles that make burn-in unlikely for mixed use. They do not eliminate it. If your screen shows the same taskbar, dock or editor sidebar for eight hours a day, five days a week, the risk is real.
03Text rendering is a genuine trade-off
Most OLED monitors use a sub-pixel layout that desktop operating systems were not designed around. The result is mild colour fringing on small text. Some people never notice; others cannot unsee it.
04The decision rule
Games and video most of the day: OLED is worth it. Code, documents and spreadsheets most of the day: a good IPS panel costs less and will serve you better.
